UTM 2K2 and UTM Revolution 1 commenced workouts at the start of November. The teams are each meeting weekly until the Christmas break to work on some basic fielding and hitting drills. Pitchers and catchers are also starting to get going, whether at the team session or individually with their own trainers and mentors.
UTM East and Brantford will commence indoor workouts in the new year.
UTM's program has had the opportunity to travel to Upstate New York the past two Thankgiving weekend's to but a cap on our fall ball season. This year our 2K2 Squad travelled to Herkimer (SUNY) College for a campus and class tour followed by some time in the cages with the college coaches. The day ended with 2K2 playing the College in a double header. UTM is very lucky to have met coach PJ Anadio, he is a true friend, and is an inspirational leader to the Generals, we hope some of his leadership and passion rubs off on our UTM Athletes.
Following the Herkimer visit, 2K2 participated in the Home Run Showcase, where the team went 2-2-1 which included our program's first game with the UNY Revolution program.
UTM hosts a fall tournament each year, this year's event will once again be held in Stratford the weekend of September 23 & 24. At present UTM's 2K2, REV 1, and Brantford teams will be participating in this event. We expect to run divisions in U14, U16 and U19 over the two days.
2K2 begins their fall schedule with a tournament the weekend of September 15th, in Buffalo NY. The team will be competing in the Cayuga Gambler's Lady Luck tournament. Rival Vaughan Vikings 02' will also be in this event. We will have updates on our twitter feed over the weekend.
2K2 is also confirmed to attend the Herkimer NJCAA tour Thanksgiving weekend, and will also take part in the Home Run Softball 16U showcase that weekend as well (October 6 - 8). UTM will also send a 2nd team, made up of U19 players to participate in the same event. Keep watch for additional details.
REV 1 will run some fall practices, before the UTM First Look Tournament.
Brantford is participating in an exhibition game Thursday September 14th, and then will close out fall with the First Look event.
UTM has partnered with the Brantford Bobcats organization to jointly field a team an additional team at the U19 Tier 2 Division for the 2017/2018 season. Shortly after the initial Tier 1 tryout flurry, UTM as well as the Bobcats were faced with the situation of having 5 or 6 players each who were still interested in playing ball this coming season. Rather than continue down separate paths the two organizations made the quick decision to come together and make a complete team, and avoid having any of the players have to continue with the stress of not knowing what was happening for the coming season. A partnership like works well when the two organizations clearly are in it for the right reasons… to keep more girls playing the sport at a competitive level.
The U19 Tier 2 team, for now called UTM Brantford will be led by Kimberly Windle, and managed by Chris Meyer. Please see the team page for more information.
